Stephen Buffalo is a proud member of the Samson Cree Nation and currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Indian Resource Council of Canada.
He completed his secondary education at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Saskatchewan.
Mr. Buffalo holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Medicine Hat College and a Bachelor of Management degree from University of Lethbridge. He also completed the Institute of Corporate Directors designation (ICD.D) as part of its first Indigenous cohort.
Mr. Buffalo spent 15 years with Peace Hills Trust, most recently serving as Regional Manager for Southern Alberta, gaining extensive experience in finance, governance, and Indigenous economic development.
As President and CEO of the Indian Resource Council of Canada, Mr. Buffalo works closely with both provincial and federal governments, advocating for Indigenous participation in Canada’s energy sector while promoting the alignment of resource development with Indigenous rights and economic prosperity.
Mr. Buffalo serves on numerous boards and committees, including: First Indigenous Governor, Canadian Energy Executive Association Chair, Alberta Indigenous Opportunities
He is deeply connected to his culture and traditions. Outside of his professional work, Mr. Buffalo is an avid golfer and dedicates his time as a hockey scout.
