While pursuing her B.S. in Sustainability Studies from UC Riverside, Chiena became determined to bridge the gap of knowledge between environmental science and society through eco-conscious digital marketing and graduated with an added minor in Media and Culture Studies. Currently, Chiena is an educational and influential content creator serving her CA Climate Action Term at the non-profit food and goods rescue organization, White Pony Express (WPE). She is passionate about the power of digital storytelling through meaningful photo and video capture, condensing captivating concepts, and designing commanding visuals. At WPE she has connected real-time action with valuable facts about the organization’s processes to better engage and educate their social following about the positive social and environmental impact of WPE’s work.

Don’t Waste, Taste! Why Food Recovery is important and how we can all do it better.
Currently, Americans are carelessly bringing half the foods they buy to the trash instead of their mouths (Chiena Ty, 2022). In an effort to avoid rising emissions, wasteful land use, and hunger, Food Recovery is the important next step in America’s fight to become a true sustainable nation. This workshop will look to examine current Food Recovery practices and future solutions!The CCAC Fellows’ goal is to facilitate a thought-provoking discussion on the importance of Food Recovery and leave attendees with tangible solutions.
