Shanoy Anderson is the Environment Director for the Qawalangin Tribe of Unalaska, where she leads strategic initiatives in environmental stewardship, climate resilience, fisheries, remediation, and recycling initiatives that support the Unalaska community and surrounding Aleutian region. With an extensive academic background, including a PhD in Environmental Toxicology and master’s degrees in Soil Science and Interdisciplinary Studies (Forensic Science and Business Administration), Dr. Anderson bridges the gap between high-level technical research and community-focused advocacy.
Her expertise is centered on grant development and management, brownfield remediation, fisheries monitoring, coastal resilience, sustainability programming, and community-based environmental engagement. A strong proponent of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), she integrates indigenous insights with scientific methodologies to develop sustainable solutions for environmental stressors. She works closely with Tribal, local, state, and federal partners to advance projects that protect natural resources, strengthen community resilience, and support long-term environmental sustainability in rural Alaska.
Beyond her environmental work, Dr. Anderson is a prominent leader in the sports community, serving as the President of Rage City Roller Derby in Anchorage. Her leadership spans both the boardroom and the track, where she advocates for organizational growth, officiating excellence, and the continued development of the Alaskan roller derby community.
