Julie Benabente has been working on environmental programs for local governments for over 25 years, with a focus on energy and climate initiatives for over fifteen years. As the Deputy Director for the Energy Department’s Climate Smart Division, she and her team help to create policy, programs, planning, processes, and funding to facilitate the City’s climate mitigation and adaption/ resiliency efforts. Julie played a lead role in forming San Jose’s community choice energy program, developing the City’s climate action and adaptation plans, and developing San Jose’s building reach codes. Julie has a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and an M.B.A, with a focus on sustainability, from Presidio Graduate School in San Francisco.
